What is a Pain Clinic

Groups of medical professionals with the stated goal of preventing pain from becoming a disabling disease.  Often used by L&I to cut off an injured workers pain medications.  Authorized by WAC 296-20-12050.

Pain clinics are L&I’s response to injured workers with severe chronic pain. They get the patient away from the doctor who is prescribing opiate drugs. Few persons enjoy the pain clinic process.  

Pain clinics are also known as SIMP, a structured, intensive multidisciplinary program.
